Texas Leaders Must Reject Calls For Partisan Election Investigation

AUSTIN, TX - This week, former President Trump urged a unneeded review of the 2020 election in Texas, a state he won, and late last night, the Texas Secretary of State’s office announced they are conducting a “comprehensive forensic audit” in four Texas counties. In doing so, however, the Secretary of State’s office did not explain the statutory authority for such a review, or the source of its funding. In response, Secure Democracy issued the following statement:

“The 2020 election in Texas was smooth and secure, a testament to the professionalism of local election officials across the state,” said Sarah Walker, executive director of Secure Democracy. “We don’t need a costly relitigation of the 2020 elections, which resulted in wins for conservatives up and down the ballot. Instead, Texas leaders should be focused on serving the most urgent, pressing needs facing Texans today. The 2020 election is over, and it’s time to move on to other important issues.”
