Georgia Averts Last-Minute Elections Overhaul in Win for Election Integrity

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

ATLANTA — Today, Georgia lawmakers answered Gov. Brian Kemp’s call to avoid a last-minute overhaul to state election equipment. The bill passed earlier today, S.B. 3EX, delays the state’s ban on voting machines that use QR codes to January 1, 2028. It also establishes a committee to explore updated voting equipment ahead of that date. The bill now heads to Gov. Kemp for final approval.

Secure Democracy USA Advocacy Director Diego Echeverri released the following statement:

“Georgia lawmakers came together to secure a massive win for election integrity. S.B. 3EX avoids a last-minute election equipment overhaul that would have led to chaos during this year’s midterms.

“We applaud the Georgia House and Senate for working hard to preserve stability and trust in Georgia’s elections, and we thank Georgia’s elections officials for their tremendous leadership on this issue.”
