NEW POLL: Secure Democracy Poll Shows Strong Enthusiasm for Pro-Voter Policies in Arizona
PHOENIX, AZ – A new statewide poll released today shows that the vast majority of Arizonans support pro-voter policies to increase ballot access. The poll was fielded by Secure Democracy, an organization that works across the country to educate policymakers and the public about secure and fair elections.
The poll shows that Arizona voters strongly support current voting laws, including the Permanent Early Voter List (PEVL). This poll calls into question several proposed bills that would fundamentally change current voting laws and undermine Arizona's PEVL, particularly SB 1188 which would purge hundreds of thousands of people from the Arizona PEVL in the coming years.
Emma Davidson Tribbs, Secure Democracy Arizona State Director, said, “Our poll shows that Arizona voters overwhelmingly support their state’s strong early voting laws, including the Permanent Early Voter List,” adding that, “Arizona voters do not support purging people from the voter rolls for not voting in recent elections and are likely to disagree strongly with the legislature's attempts to undermine a voting system that people already love.”
Arizona’s Permanent Early Voter List (PEVL) Is Incredibly Popular
Arizona’s Permanent Early Voter List (PEVL) gives anyone the option to receive their ballot in the mail before a primary or general election.
81% of voters support preserving Arizona’s Permanent Early Voter List (PEVL), and the policy maintains strong support among Republican voters, at 77%.
Arizona’s Early Voting Option Also Enjoys Strong, Bipartisan Support
Arizona’s current early voting laws give people who receive their ballot in the mail the option to mail it back or drop it off in-person during the early voting period or on election day.
85% of people support Arizona’s current early voting laws, and the policy maintains incredibly strong support among Republicans, at 83%.
Arizona Voters Do Not Support Voter Purges
63% of voters overall oppose purging voters from the rolls if they have not voted in recent elections, including 59% of Republicans.
Supermajority of Voters Support Full Vote-By-Mail in Arizona
Vote-by-mail states conduct their elections by sending every registered voter a ballot in the mail, regardless of whether or not they have added their name to a list. After filling it out, voters can either send the ballot back in the mail, or they can drop it off at a secure drop site. They can also vote in-person at a polling place.
69% of voters overall support moving Arizona to a full vote-by-mail state. Support remains high among Republicans, at 71%.
