Texas Legislation to Limit College, K12 Election Poll Locations Denies Voter Access

AUSTIN, Texas – House Bill 2390 would ban polling places from higher education campuses, and SB 143 would ban polling places at elementary and secondary schools, denying voters access to the ballot box. With these proposals denying voter access, Secure Democracy USA’s Senior Policy Director Daniel Griffith released the following statement:

"Texas strives to be a leader in election integrity – that means providing accessible polling locations for voters across the state. Recent efforts to eliminate polling locations from college campuses and public schools would fly in the face of that goal.

"College campuses are a convenient option for many Texans, young and old, to cast a ballot. Public schools are similarly convenient, and oftentimes the only viable option in rural communities. To eliminate either will do nothing to bolster election security, but everything to restrict access. That's a bad deal for Texas."
