New Florida Poll Finds Bipartisan Support for Election Integrity, Expanded Voter Access
More than three-quarters of Florida voters, and more than eight-in-10 Republicans, support monitoring ballot dropboxes by video or in person
TALLAHASSEE, Fla.— Leading Republican pollster, Ryan Tyson of The Tyson Group, today released new polling on public support for various voting access policies in Florida. Commissioned by Secure Democracy, a nonpartisan, nonprofit organization that works to improve election integrity across the United States, the poll of 600 registered voters in Florida was administered from Feb. 26 through March 2 2021, via live callers to both landlines and cellphones. The survey oversampled Republican primary voters.
Among the key findings, there is general, bipartisan support across the state for:
Monitoring drop boxes in person or by video: 77% of all voters support, 83% of Republican voters support
Assistance returning vote by mail ballot by a family member or caregiver: 69% of all voters support, 58% of Republican voters support
More days of early voting: 67% of all voters support, 51% of Republican voters support
Notifying people returning home from prison of their fees owed in order to vote: 57% of all voters support, 60% of Republican voters support
There is general opposition to overly restrictive policies, such as:
Prohibiting dropping off another person’s ballot: 54% of all voters oppose, 42% of Republican voters oppose
Notaries for mail ballots: 60% of all voters oppose, 41% of Republican voters oppose
Prohibiting early voting sites on college campuses: 64% of all voters oppose, 54% of Republican voters oppose
"Our polling shows clear bipartisan support for various policies which bolster election integrity and expand voter access, including additional days of early voting, video monitoring of drop boxes and assistance in returning a vote-by-mail ballot by a family member or caregiver," said Ryan Tyson, president of The Tyson Group. "On the other hand, the findings also indicate the majority of Floridians are opposed to policies that would restrict voting access, such as requiring notaries for mail ballots, or prohibiting early voting sites on college campuses. Voters were also broadly against the idea of super voting sites if they replace existing precincts."
"The facts speak for themselves: our research clearly shows that Floridians of all political persuasions want policies that continue to improve voter access and bolster election integrity without being excessively restrictive," said Sarah Walker, executive director of Secure Democracy. "After a very successful 2020 election in Florida, lawmakers have the opportunity to unite Republicans and Democratic voters behind common-sense election integrity measures.”
