Connecticut Voters Deserve Fully Funded Elections

HARTFORD, Conn. - As the Connecticut legislature prepares to pass the state budget, Secure Democracy USA Director of Advocacy Evan Preston released the following statement:

“Connecticut voters deserve free, fair, and accessible elections that are fully funded. Unfortunately, the current state budget stops short of providing all the necessary resources for local election officials to run smooth and accessible elections, including a lack of funding for early voting. Secure Democracy USA will continue to work with lawmakers to ensure Connecticut’s elections are fully funded and the new early and absentee voting laws are properly implemented with the resources needed for voters.”

POLL: Connecticut voters want fully funded elections

In April, Secure Democracy USA released a poll showing strong support for fully funded elections in Connecticut:

• 71% of Connecticut voters support legislators taking action to fully fund the state’s elections, with support from 82% of Democrats, 63% of Republicans, and 63% of Independents.

• Connecticut voters are also clear that they support providing resources to local election officials to ensure early voting goes smoothly, with 71% favoring providing funding to ensure Connecticut voters can cast a ballot before Election Day.
